The U.S. private sector counterpart for the United Nations Refugee Agency awarded its first Dewey Refugee Legacy of Leadership Award to Arthur E. "Gene" Dewey '56 on April 25, 2018 at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC. The annual Dewey Refugee Award is intended to recognize individual American humanitarian leadership. Future recipients of the award, named for Dewey, will exemplify values of excellence in leadership, compassion, courage and conviction in service to refugees. Dewey is a 2006 recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Award.
