Lieutenant Colonel James Hendon has been named the new Commissioner of New York City's Department of Veterans' Services. Hendon has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The department officially launched in 2016 and the city has seen a significant drop in homelessness with veterans since then. They've created a coalition called "Veterans on Campus" which helps student veterans that may be in danger of eviction. The department has proved help for upwards of 25,000 veterans and their families since inception.
