Memorable Moments of 2020: “Grads in the Fight Against COVID-19.”
This year, West Point Magazine created a series profiling West Point grads who have been working in hospitals, making masks, developing treatments and tests, and leading and supporting front line workers during the global pandemic.
WPAOG reached out across the country to learn how the Long Gray Line is serving in this moment of historical crisis to face the challenge of the pandemic with "Answering The Nation's Call: Grads on the Front Lines of the COVID-19 Battle," and we've shared some of the many inspiring stories we've received.
Read about West Point graduates like LTG Todd Semonite ’79, who led the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers crisis response team to help flatten the curve, with projects nationwide such as turning the Jacob Javits Convention Center into an alternate care facility in New York City. Or Alex Gorsky ’82, Chairman and CEO of Johnson & Johnson, whose team is working to develop a vaccine to combat the virus. Kimberly Jung ’08 is another grad who is a project manager for the MIT E-Vent team, which came up with a simplistic and inexpensive solution to the ventilator shortage that was caused by COVID-19.
“I think as West Pointers," Kimberly Jung ’08 said, "we have it in our DNA to heed the call to serve, to be the one in the arena and to figure out what it takes to get the mission done.”
