West Point has had a total of 21 grads that have been selected as NASA astronauts. COL(R) Shane Kimbrough, USMA Class of 1989, is currently in space as part of SpaceX's Crew-2 mission, the second operational commercial crew flight of SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft. The U.S. Army Astronaut Program allows active-duty Army personnel who successfully apply for admission to NASA’s Astronaut Candidate Program to complete the two-year candidate process while serving on active duty. Upon completion of training, astronauts will continue to serve on active duty.
