Chaplain Camp was the longest serving USMA Chaplain (1972 – 1996) but his influence was much greater, spanning generations before and after. Beginning as the assistant under Chaplain Jim Ford at the end of mandatory chapel and an honorary member of the class of 1958, his life’s work was marrying, burying, inspiring and motivating generations of West Point graduates. Unable to host his memorial due to COVID last year, his family has scheduled a service for a non-football weekend on Saturday October 9, 2021, at 2pm at the Cadet Chapel. A reception will follow, and all are invited to attend. Multiple events have been planned for that weekend including a 9am Sunday Morning service at Trophy Point where most cadets first heard Chaplain Camp remind them to “lift our eyes up to the hills.” Kicking it all off will be a 9am Saturday hike up Bull Hill where Chaplain Camp is best known for having hiked with every company, every class, for 22 years.
