Kazmierski said EDAWN has focused on attracting quality jobs to the region over the past few years, attracting more than 50 new companies to the region that has helped cut the unemployment rate from over 14 percent to nearly 6 percent. He said the national media attention the region received this past fall, that culminated with landing the Tesla battery gigafactory to be built starting in 2015 with 6,500 jobs by 2020, has helped tremendously with the ongoing message of the region's quality of life as well as its outdoor recreation and major special events.
