Gen. (Ret.) Stan McChrystal’s book, Team of Teams, was recently published by Portfolio. Co-authored with former Navy SEALs Dave Silverman and Chris Fussell, the book studies his experiences leading Special Operations forces in a rapidly changing environment.
After taking charge of Joint Special Operations Command, McChrystal realized his forces were losing. He and his team found success by transforming their organization from an efficient, static bureaucracy into a more flexible, adaptive network capable of beating back Al Qaeda.
The book, underpinned with academic research, shows how the challenges they faced in Iraq can be relevant to countless businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations. It dives into how the world has become more complex, why traditional organizational models do not work, and how they discovered that the agility of small teams should be scaled to the enterprise level to create a “team of teams.”
