FORT BENNING, GA - In a change of command ceremony on June 30th, Col. John M. Cushing assumed command of the 194th Armored Brigade. Col. Cushing assumed command from Col. Scott King at Brave Rifles Field. "John and his Family come in ready to go. When I look at John's resume, you probably don't get a better person to hand the colors to than John Cushing," said Maj. Gen. Scott Miller, commanding general of the Maneuver Center of Excellence.
Cushing has served in multiple tactical assignments in the 3rd Infantry Division and the 1st Cavalry Division. Most recently, he served as the G3, deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Resolute Support. He served as a Tank Company commander and Recon Troop commander with the 2nd Brigade at Fort Stewart, GA, and as a Battalion S3 and Brigade executive officer for the 3rd Brigade here, as a member of the 3rd Infantry Division. Cushing's combat action includes tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. His awards include the Bronze Star with three Oak Leaf Cluster and the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. During his career Cushing has earned the Combat Action Badge, the Airborne Badge, the Air Assault Badge and the Ranger Tab.
