COL Duryea ’60 & Sherden ’60 Annual Appalachian Trail Hike

’60 Classmates John Sherden (AKA “Dundee” on the trail) and Lyman “Chan” Duryea (AKA “Duzzer” on the trail) decided to hike a section of the Appalachian Trail in Maine during late July-early August of 2015 before the Marchback. They hiked together for 37 miles from Andover, ME to Rangeley, ME all the time sharing memories about their West Point years, their academic prowess in the various subjects, their disagreements with the tactical department, and their military careers. The discussions were equally as lively as the exercise! Sherden then continued his hike from Rangeley to Stratton, ME – another 32 miles –with Ron Hudnell with the Class of 1969.
