Fort Leavenworth, KS – Congratulations to Major William J. Denn ’06, the winner of the General George C. Marshall Award for the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer Course (CGSOC) Class of 2016. The award is named in honor of George C. Marshall who graduated first in his class of 1908 in the new Staff College Course. This award goes to the distinguished United States military graduate in each class in recognition of scholarship and leadership. Major Denn is also the winner of the Arter-Doniphan Award for CGSOC Class of 2016. The Arter-Doniphan Award is presented to the student in each graduating class who obtains the highest overall academic achievement. It is named for LTG (retired) Robert Arter, former Deputy Commandant and Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Kansas and Alexander Doniphan, a hero of the Mexican-American War and a key civic leader in the early days of Missouri. Both men are members of the Fort Leavenworth Hall of Fame. The CGSOC class of 2016, comprising of approximately 1300 officers, graduated on June 10, 2016 at ceremony at Fort Leavenworth, KS. The graduation speaker was U.S. Army Cyber Commander, Lt. Gen. Edward C. Cardon ’82.
