Colonel (R) Pamela Martis has been named the director of Veteran Student Services for Saint Leo University. Martis brings more than 25 years of leadership experience to the university, along with a desire to serve fellow veterans and their families. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Russian, Central European, East European, and Eurasian studies from the University of Kansas. In addition, she received a master’s degree from the National Defense University, Industrial College of the Armed Forces. She served 4½ years in the artillery before transferring to the Military Police Corps.
Her experience includes serving as the legislative liaison for the Department of Army; commander of the 924th Military Police Battalion and installation provost marshal; U.S. Military Academy faculty member and regimental tactical officer; garrison commander at the Presidio of Monterey (CA); Combined Security Training Command-Afghanistan; director of Strategic Initiatives Group Army G8, Pentagon; liaison officer to the commanding general, U.S. Forces Afghanistan/International Security Assistance Force; and deputy director of the Joint Security Office, and provost marshal for U.S. Central Command.
Martis earned the Bronze Star in November 2009 for her service in Afghanistan as well as the Department of Defense Distinguished Superior Service Medal. She will enhance Saint Leo University’s efforts to help veterans transition to civilian life and further their educations. The university serves nearly 5,000 active duty service members and veterans who study at University Campus in Florida, at more than 40 teaching locations in seven states—many of which are on military bases—or online from any location.
