Montelongo '77 Speaks at the EXCEL Scholars Program and featured in Egon Zehnder’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

For their first session of the semester, the Excel Scholars and faculty welcomed guest speaker, the HON Michael Montelongo '77. After his military career, Montelongo '77 transitioned into a successful business career and returned to government to serve as the 19th Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management & Comptroller- the first Latino in that role. At the event, Montelongo shared his life story from the inner city “barrio” to West Point and beyond and emphasized the importance of persistence, grit, and determination in considering every opportunity, seeking guidance and wisdom from mentors, preparing intensively, and using each instance to learn, grow, serve, and contribute. Montelongo '77 was also featured in Egon Zehnder’s Q&A Series in celebration of this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month. Read more.
