The Ravens have added an intriguing player to a crowded competition at wide receiver. The team has signed former Army quarterback Trent Steelman, who has made a position switch to receiver. He is now the 12th receiver on the roster. To make room for Steelman, the Ravens cut undrafted rookie quarterback Jerry Lovelocke. This isn’t the first time Steelman has been inside the Under Armour Performance Center. He participated in rookie minicamp after the 2013 draft. The Ravens were reportedly interested in signing Steelman, but he had to fulfill his commitment to enter the service.

Steelman was released from active duty in December to pursue a professional football career. He is currently in the reserves. Steelman was one of the top players in West Point history, as he was the school’s all-time leading rushing quarterback. He ran for 3,320 yards and 45 touchdowns at Army. He has been working at receiver since the Army released him from active duty, and he participated in the International Federation of American Football World Championship last month. He helped lead Team USA to a gold medal and was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Story
