On 16 March 1802, Thomas Jefferson signed the document that founded the United States Military Academy. It read, “that the said corps, when so organized, shall be stationed at West Point in the state of New York and shall constitute a military academy.” This spring, West Point Societies are celebrating USMA’s 214th anniversary at traditional Founders Day events around the globe. In New York City, David McCormick '87 delivered a poignant speech, centered around the notion that "one of the most important reservoirs and guardians of American exceptionalism is found in the institution, cadets, and alumni of the U.S. Military Academy."
