Colonel Everett Spain ’92 was named the head of the United States Military Academy’s Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership. “It’s the best job in the world,” Spain said Friday morning before the ceremony. “It’s something I’m truly looking forward to.” Spain is a 22-year Army veteran with combat experience. In Iraq he received the Purple Heart while with the 1st Cavalry Division, and later served as the aide-de-camp of General David Petraeus, commander of the Multi-National Force-Iraq, during "The Surge." He is a graduate of the elite U.S. Army Ranger School. Spain also received the Soldier's Medal, the Army's highest award for valor in a non-combat situation for his actions during the Boston Marathon attack.
