A Travelers Rest police officer graduated at the top of his Basic Law Class at the SC Criminal Justice Academy. Officer Ryan Marro was the recipient of the prestigious J.P. Strom award for achieving the class’s highest grade of 97.1 percent, and he was the class’s only distinguished graduate, a designation for those achieving a grade higher than 95 percent. Near the end of his training, Marro also completed the optional “challenge run,” a three-mile run that has to be completed in 25 minutes or less. Marro achieved these distinctions while he was also serving as the class leader, an honor which gave him several extra daily responsibilities as he served as the official liaison between the Academy staff and the 55 students who ultimately graduated in his class.
Marro joined the Travelers Rest Police Department on March 1, 2016. An area local, he is also a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel. "The Travelers Rest Police Department and the city of Travelers Rest could not be prouder of Officer Marro’s achievements, and we are honored that he would choose to begin his law enforcement career in our community," said Travelers Rest Police Chief Lance Crowe. When Marrow completes his Travelers Rest PD field training, he will be assigned to agency's Uniform Patrol Division, Crowe said. Read More
