The National Academy of Public Administration (the Academy) announced that LTC(R) Teresa W. Gerton, who has served at the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Labor, will join the Academy as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 9, 2017. “After a comprehensive national search for an effective and strategic leader who can build on the Academy's accomplishments, we are pleased to announce Terry Gerton will lead our efforts to improve governance, not only in Washington, D.C., but across the national landscape,” said Reginald L. Robinson, Chairman of the Academy’s Board of Directors. “Terry brings a depth of expertise in strategic organizational management, along with a proven track record as an effective leader in a variety of organizational contexts. We welcome her vision, energy, and leadership as the Academy prepares to write its next chapter.”

I look forward to working with the Academy’s Board of Directors, Fellows and staff to achieve meaningful results.” Ms. Gerton served as an officer in the U.S. Army for 20 years before retiring in 2003, and then served for eight years as a career member of the Senior Executive Service in the U.S. Department of Defense, earning both the Meritorious and Distinguished Presidential Rank Awards. She was a Vice President at the Cohen Group from 2011-2013 and later returned to public service at the U.S. Department of Labor, where she served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy at the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) from 2013 until the present.
