Naeyaert ’79 New Port Huron City Engineer

Port Huron has hired a new city engineer and director of public works to replace retiring Bob Clegg. City Manager James Freed said Lennie Naeyaert will start the job May 18. Clegg is retiring June 1 after 16 years with the city. Naeyaert has a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the United States Military Academy. Before accepting the positions in Port Huron, he was employed as a supervisory project manager for the General Services Administration in Washington D.C.

Naeyaert said he grew up in Michigan and still has family in the state. “It’s coming home is what it is,” he said. Naeyaert said when he saw the job opening in Port Huron, he couldn’t pass it up. “This is the best job in the world,” he said. “I’ve been a city engineer and public works director before...Working for a city, you’re as close to the people you serve as in any job,” he said. “It’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.” Read More
